Most Dubai Residents Healthy and Happy -Study

DUBAI: Relaxing and exercising at least twice a week, a balanced diet and strong family and friend structures have remained key factors in the overall health and happiness of most of the residents in Dubai, a YouGov study has pointed out.

Researchers, who asked more than 500 Dubai residents about various lifestyle factors including smoking, sleep, enjoyment and impatience, reportedly said some 40 percent said they usually exercised for at least 30 minutes twice a week and 45 percent said they ate balanced meals.

However, smoking is still a difficult habit to quit, with just 38 percent saying they did not smoke cigarettes or shisha, The National quoted the survey.

As high as 52 percent of people in Dubai said they enjoyed their work-life daily routine compared to 38 percent in Cairo and 41 percent in Riyadh, two cities that were also surveyed, the report said.

Research for the study was conducted online among an adult urban population in Dubai in September. Some 497 residents in Cairo and 499 Riyadh residents were also quizzed.

The overall urban health and happiness scores placed Dubai just ahead, at 62 percent, followed closely by Cairo at 59 percent and Riyadh at 58 percent, said the news portal.

On the sleep chart, Cairo residents reportedly got more shut-eye, with 50 percent saying they frequently slept 7 to 8 hours at least four nights a week, compared to 46 percent in Dubai and 44 percent in Riyadh.

A strong family and friend support network was also important in Dubai, with 60 percent reporting they had people they could rely on.

Impatience was measured and viewed as one of the biggest threats to a resident’s ability to lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. Only 36 percent in Dubai, 32 percent in Cairo and 31 percent in Riyadh said they do not always get impatient when delayed, The National reported.

Dubai’s high score of 62 percent reflected that the majority of residents were happy and healthy, according to YouGov.
