Dubai Tightens Norms for Visiting Doctors

2015-0610 Dubai Tightens Norms for Visiting Doctors

DUBAI: Doctors visiting from abroad to practice in Dubai will only be allowed to do so if a hospital already has an existing doctor working in the same field, according to a media report.

The tightening up of regulations will ensure better continuity of care for patients once the visiting practitioner leaves, reported The National.

The new guidelines are applicable for all health facilities including private health clinics and those in the free zone, but exclude Dubai Healthcare City, the report.

Previous rules required visiting doctors to complete lengthy licensing formalities for full-time positions. The new requirements are strictly regulated but ensure licenses are issued on a fast-track basis to provide convenience for highly qualified visiting professionals, it added.

The maximum number of times a license can be renewed is three times in one year and the maximum duration for every visit is one month, said the Abu Dhabi-based newspaper.
