LOS ANGELES — With the recent auction of Network Stations nationally, LA18, the station that produces “Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” has sold its broadcast spectrum and will be ending all local programming for the Asian American community, which includes Chinese, Korean and Filipino content.

“Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” is currently the only local daily talk show for Filipinos in America.

It officially goes off the air on June 30 after 11 years of serving the Filipino community in America.

The show features topical stories and relevant interviews with notable Filipinos around the world. The program aims to propagate pride of the Philippine diasporic culture and plays an important role in the representation of the Filipino community in media.

The show’s current host and producer, G. Tongi, is teaming up with the Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture (FilAm ARTS) to continue “Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” on television as a weekly show for a total of 52 shows a year.

A GoFund me campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/keepkababayanonair)  for “Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” has been started. By raising $20,000, “Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” will be able to cover the initial carriage fee for broadcast for a year to air existing content.

More funds are needed to continue producing new and exciting segments, but the minimum to keep the program running is this initial $20,000.

“Kababayan Today with G. Tongi” is seeking support for this fundraising campaign and is urging viewers to keep the weekly program on television.
