Abu Dhabi: The final judgment in a case involving a Filipina who is on death row is expected to be announced on May 24.

Jennifer, a domestic worker was sentenced to death in May 2015.

Jennifer, 30, was sentenced to death by the Al Ain Court of First Instance in May 2015 after she was found guilty of killing her employer in December 2014. She claimed it was self-defence because her employer tried to rape her.

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi said the hearing for the case of Jennifer Dalquez  was held on Wednesday but the two sons of the victim, whom the Judge ordered to appear did not attend the proceedings.

The counsel for Dalquez moved for acquittal of his client in view of the absence of the legal heirs of the alleged victim and their refusal to swear in the name of Allah that the accused is the only one person responsible for the death of the victim.

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi wishes to announce that the hearing for the case of OFW Jennifer Dalquez which is scheduled today, 12 April 2017, was postponed to 26 April 2017.

In the supposed April 12 hearing, the counsel for the sons of the alleged victim conveyed that the sons refuse to swear, given that Dalquez had already admitted to the killing of their father during the investigation of the case.

The Judge, however, reiterated the previous directive and ordered the sons to appear before the court on April 26 and as previously ordered, swear in the name of Allah, 25 times each, that the accused is the person who killed their father. If they don’t  do this, the court will ask Dalquez during the April 26 hearing, to swear in the name of Allah, 50 times, that she did not kill the alleged victim intentionally.

On Wednesday, the Judge further asked Dalquez what her requests are and the latter replied that she be acquitted and allowed to return to her country.

The judgement on the case is expected on May 24.
