Canberra — An exhibition focusing on Saudi Arabia’s anti-terrorism efforts over the years has opened in Australia’s capital Canberra.

The exhibition was jointly inaugurated on Sunday by Saudi Ambassador to Australia Nabil Al-Saleh and Chief of Protocol Department at Australia’s Foreign Ministry Lyndall Sachs.

The event was held on the sidelines of the embassy’s celebrations of Saudi Arabia’s 86th National Day.

In a statement to Saudi Press Agency to mark the event, Ambassador Al-Saleh reiterated the Kingdom’s efforts in combating terrorism.

He also highlighted the Kingdom’s relief initiatives all over the world, particularly in the Arab and Islamic worlds, emanating from its pioneering regional and international role to bring about peace and stability in the world.

Addressing the UN General Assembly last Wednesday, Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and interior minister, said that the Kingdom was “one of the first” countries that suffered terrorism, way before the deadly Sept. 11 attack in New York in 2001.

The Crown Prince said since 1992, Saudi Arabia had confronted 100 terrorism operations, including 18 terrorist attacks “implemented by elements linked to regional countries.”

He said “before Sep. 11, Saudi Arabia had signed agreements with other Arab states to fight terrorism,” and until now it is still “waging an unrelenting war against terrorist groups.”

He added: “Saudi Arabia is now part of 12 international agreements to fight terrorism,” and it heads in “partnership” with the United States and Italy a group combating Daesh funding.

To combat radicalism, Saudi Arabia “has launched Muhammad Bin Naif Counseling and Care Center and its top clerics have been issuing religious edicts prohibiting terrorism or joining terror groups.”

Saudi Arabia “was one of the first countries that denounced September 11.”

“The security apparatus in Saudi Arabia has foiled 268 terrorist operations, including operations against friendly states such as United States,” he said.
