Malacañang receives Robredo’s letter at 9:07 a.m. of Dec. 5

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo has officially tendered her resignation letter to Malacañang on Monday, December 5.

The vice president shared a photo of her copy of the resignation letter on her social media sites.

The letter, dated December 5 and indicating that her resignation takes effect “immediately,” was received by the Office of the Executive Secretary at 9:07 a.m.

This comes a day after announcing her resignation, after Robredo said she received a text message from secretary to the Cabinet Jun Evasco saying that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted her to “desist from attending all Cabinet meetings.”

She described the directive as “the last straw” in what she lamented as her political differences with the president and an alleged plot to steal the vice presidency.

In the letter, Robredo addressed Duterte that his directive “has effectively made it impossible for me to do my job” and that staying in the Cabinet “has become untenable” for her.

She said she accepted the chairmanship of HUDCC in recognition of their “shared commitment to the poor and marginalized” and “exerted all effort to put aside our differences.”

She further said she tried to “maintain a professional working relationship” and perform her duties “effectively despite the constraints” out of her belief that “the Filipino people deserve no less.”

Presidential communications secretary Martin Andanar on Sunday wished Robredo to continue her “unhampered service” to the nation despite stepping down from HUDCC.
