Maid Who Slit Lamees, 6, Throat Executed

RIYADH — The Ethiopian housemaid, who brutally murdered the six-year-old daughter of her Saudi employer, was executed in Riyadh city on Monday.
Zamzam Abdullah Booraik, the maid, was convicted of killing Lamees Bint Muhammad Al-Salman by slitting her throat with a kitchen knife and leaving the girl in the toilet until she breathed her last, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The gruesome murder of Lamees that shook the entire Kingdom was committed in June 2013 in Hota Bani Tamim, 150 km south of Riyadh.

In Dec. 2013, a court in Riyadh handed down the death verdict after the then 26-year-old maid confessed to killing Lamees to avenge her Saudi employer for his alleged mistreatment.

Police arrested the maid just an hour after she killed the child. The police, who rushed to the family’s home, found Lamees in a pool of blood. They eventually found the maid hiding in a store behind the house and holding a cleaver, seemingly to defend herself. However, she was brought under control and taken for investigation. The woman reportedly pleaded guilty.

Saudi Arabia has been shaken by the murder of Lamees with many Social media and microblog users sharing their compassion with the father.

The father, Muhammad Al-Salman, used his Twitter account to pay homage to his daughter. “This is my Lamees. I was overjoyed when she was born, carrying her around. Today, I carry her to her grave. I had never anticipated this moment. I was thinking of her as a bride,” he posted on his account with her picture.

In other tweets, he reiterated his submission to God’s will and prayed for her soul.
