MOJ Marries Off 349 Filipinas

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Ministry of Justice reported it has conducted 394 marriages of Filipinas, who were here in the Kingdom without a guardian, in 2015.

A source said the Filipinas did not have a guardian with them so the guardianship was passed on to the judge.

“In the case of the absence of a guardian or his refusal to approve the marriage, the judge may step in, in place of the guardian, and officiate the marriage according to the law. There were also 16 Saudi women who married with the judge as their guardian,” said the source.

The source also said three of the Saudi women married Filipinos, three married Syrians, one married an Egyptian, while others married a Jordanian, an Indian, an American and a Yemeni.

“The ministry also reported that there have been a total of 4,983 divorces, 4,425 of them between Saudi couples,” said the source.
