Free health camp took place across GMC Hospital branches in the UAE

Dubai: More than 9,000 people attended GMC Hospital’s Free Mega Health Camp on Friday. The initiative took place simultaneously at all the hospital’s branches in Dubai, Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

As part of the health camp, free consultations and medicines were given to all those who attended.

A team of specialists, consultants, nurses and volunteers conducted free consultations and check-ups. Visitors to the camp, which took place from 9am to 5pm, were given free medicines. Patients have the chance to attend follow-up check-ups for free in the next six days. As part of the hospital promotion, free medicines, hospital brochures, and health packages were given to all the patients and visitors.

According to hospital officials, most of the attendees were from labour accommodations and industries in Ajman, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

“We have been holding these camps regularly for the past 12 years,” Thumbay Moideen, Founder and President of Thumbay Group, said, “We hold it twice a year, in June and September, and serve the needy. We are glad that so many people have taken advantage of our camp.”

Moideen said 15,000—20,000 people benefit from GMC’s camps every year.

Dr Prashanth Hegde, Medical Director of the Ajman branch, said more than 3,400 attended the health camp in Ajman.

“Majority of the cases were in medicine, paediatrics and gynaecology,” Hegde said. “We had to send away over 400 people who came after the camp hours.”

Dr Syed Mahmoudi, Medical Director of the Dubai branch, said over 2,500 people came to the hospital.

“Lots of people came to the hospital by 10am,” he said. “This was my first experience of holding a free health camp and I am happy to see more than 2,500 people visit our hospital.”

Dr Satyanarayanan, Medical Director of the Fujairah branch, said more than 2,100 came for the free health camp in Fujairah.

“We saw the biggest numbers this year,” he said. “We expected over 1,500 but more than 2,100 people came for the free health camp.”

Dr Manish Singhal, Assistant Administrative Director, said the Fujairah branch witnessed an increase in the number of patients in the departments of orthopaedics, internal medicine, cardiology and dental.

“The Thumbay Pharmacy in Fujairah distributed free medicines worth over Dh20,000,” he said.

Dr Shaju Philip, Assistant Administrative Director of the Dubai Thumbay Hospital, said more than 1,000 people attended the health Ccamp. “Apart from dental cases, we had many cases in medicine and paediatrics,” he said.

“Owing to the changes in weather conditions, we have seen a lot of cases in Internal medicine, paediatrics and dermatology. There is also a distinct increase in dental cases this year.”
