OFW Proud of Daughter Killed in Tacloban Mass

MANILA – The mother of Kristel Padasas, the volunteer worker killed in a tragic accident in Tacloban after Pope Francis celebrated mass, is very proud of her daughter.

Judy Padasas returned home from Hong Kong after learning the sad news about her only daughter’s death.

Padasas has been a domestic worker since 1991. It was this job that enabled them to send her daughter to college.

The OFW praised her daughter whom she said did not give them any problems.

“Talagang sinuklian niya. Wala akong naging problema sa kanyang pag-aaral,” she said.

Kristel died when a speaker mounted on a scaffolding fell on her due to tropical storm ‘Amang’ in Tacloban.

Kristel worked as a volunteer for the Catholic Relief Services helping calamity survivors. They also volunteered for the papal mass in Tacloban.

“Very proud ako sa anak ko na hanggang sa huli nagse-serve siya kay Lord. Hindi niya iniisip sarili niya. Kahit may maganda siyang trabaho ginive up niya yun para mag volunteer sa Bohol,” her mother said.

Pope Francis offered a silent prayer for Kristel and her family during the Encounter with the Youth even held at the University of Sto. Tomas on Sunday.

The Pope also met and comforted Kristel’s father. He also gave her father two medallions and three rosaries, one of which will be placed in the hands of Kristel on her funeral.

“Di man kami kilala, talagang pinahanap niya kami para personal niyang makausap, i-comfort,” her mother said of the pope.
