OFW’s Airfare to PH ‘Embezzled’ by Recruiter

A recruitment agency officer in Cebu is facing estafa for allegedly defrauding a mother of a Saudi-based overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who wanted to return home to the Philippines.

Flor Pagsiat was charged with estafa before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu for allegedly pocketing the money intended for the airfare ticket of Susan Cuizon’s daughter.

The mother, 51, told Sunstar that she gave P39,000 to Pagsiat for the plane fare of her daughter, who works as a domestic helper in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As an officer of a recruitment agency, Pagsiat assured Cuizon that she will deposit the money to her daughter’s bank account which did not happen.

The accused promised to return the money but was only able to give her P10,000.

Pagsiat failed to submit her counter-affidavit before the court, making the evidence presented to the prosecutor declared as sufficient enough to resolve the complaint.
