Ooredoo has been named the main sponsor of the 117th Philippine Independence Day celebrations, which will be held at Sheraton Doha today.

The all-day event will feature a singing competition, an art contest, a magic show, a fun zone for children, a trade fair, a food festival, a mini car show and more.

As part of Ooredoo’s sponsorship, the company will set up a special Ooredoo booth to provide information on the “cheapest way to call the Philippines from Qatar”, Ooredoo Mobile Money services, Hala Smart bundles, Hala mobile Internet packs and top-ups.

The Ooredoo booth will also host several prize giveaways, including free data cards and Ooredoo merchandise.

Fatima Sultan al-Kuwari, director of community and public relations at Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo has been a proud sponsor of the Philippine Independence Day for a number of years and we’re happy to see this celebration continue to grow and get bigger each year. This event allows everyone to experience true Filipino traditions and thank our expatriates for supporting Qatar.”

Wilfredo Santos, Philippine ambassador to Qatar, said: “As we celebrate Philippine Independence Day, let us rejoice in the triumphs our country has achieved through reforms. Mabuhay, Philippines!”

Frank Jamandre, overall chairman of the United Filipino Organisations in Qatar (UFOQ), said: “UFOQ expresses our grateful thanks to Ooredoo for continuously sponsoring our Independence Day celebration every year.”

Tickets for the 117th Philippine Independence Day Celebrations will be on sale at Sheraton Doha for QR15 today.

Ooredoo’s support for the event is in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, which aims to provide sponsorship for a range of grassroots activities that benefit the whole community.
