Passport Applicants to Receive Application Status Via Email

Passport applicants who get empty-handed on the day of the supposed pickup date due to discrepancies is now a thing in the past, said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

It has launched a feedback mechanism that will notify applicants via email of problems in his or her application even before he or she reports to the DFA to claim the passport, the Inquirer reported.

This will halt cases wherein applicants have to return several times to submit supporting or additional documents required to wipe out discrepancies.

DFA Office of Consular Affairs Executive Director Angelica Escalona said that the move will free applicants from the hassle of lining up or travelling to DFA offices only to know that their passports are yet to be processed.

“Before, you would not know if there are discrepancies until that day when you are supposed to pick up the passport. There was no feedback mechanism,” she said in a statement.

Earlier this month, DFA opened an additional 1,200 passport application and renewal slots as well as a courtesy lane for aspiring overseas Filipino workers.

The additional appointment slots were made possible by revoking schedules that were initially reserved for DFA employees and travel agencies.
