Philippines Opens Applications for English Teachers in China

Filipinos were warned against illegal recruiters, as those interested should apply through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration

Filipinos can now apply to work as English-language teachers in China through the Philippine government. Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that around 2,000 teachers were needed in China starting next month, The Filipino Times reported.

Bello said China and the Philippines were finalizing the guidelines of the government-to-government hiring scheme before the deployment of Filipinos to China. He added that those interested could submit their applications to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.

The government warned people not to fall victim to illegal recruiters, stressing that applicants should only apply through the POEA. Bello clarified that the hiring scheme was an arrangement between the two governments.

According to Bello, there is no age requirement and the monthly salary for teachers is around 74,000 to 84,000 pesos (US$1,385-$1,575). The contracts will be renewable after two years.
