Pinay Maid Holds First Photo Exhibit in HK

MANILA – A domestic worker whose passion in photography got the attention of international media including New York Times, International Herald Tribune and Vogue Italia, recently held her first photo exhibit at the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.

Titled “Xyza in Focus,” the event held last November 19 to 24, showcased 20 of Bacani’s works in black and white that feature people, places and sights in Hong Kong as main subjects.

Bacani said her interest in photography started back when she was still in the Philippines. Unable to purchase her own camera then, she pursued her craft in Hong Kong when she was given a camera.

“Photography should come from the heart,” Bacani said when asked about her art during her talk before the Filipino community on November 24.

Bacani mostly takes photographs during her days-off.

She is also passionate about OFW issues in Hong Kong and has expressed the hope of putting up an exhibit of the photographs she has taken of Filipino workers.

“Xyza in Focus” was organized by Pintura Circle, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General.
