Pinoys Off to Greece Told: Avoid Demonstrations

MANILA – Filipinos planning to travel to Greece are urged to closely monitor the news.

“While it is still safe for tourists to travel to Greece, Filipino travelers are informed that strikes and demonstrations may occur mostly in the center of Athens, especially in Syntagma Square and in front of the Parliament building,” the Philippine embassy in Athens said in an advisory.

The embassy urged Pinoy travelers or even those based in Greece to refrain from being within the vicinity of large gatherings.

“Due to imposed capital controls and the closure of banks, travelers are advised to have enough cash to cover their stay in Greece and also for emergencies and unexpected expenses,” the embassy added.

For emergency situations, the embassy is urging the community to contact its duty officer at mobile no. (0030) 697-4319-539.
