Self-Employment Rule for Foreigners Denied

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has denied media reports of plans being made by Saudi authorities to allow foreign workers to invest in self-employed trades in return for taxes.

The ministry emphasized that there was no such plan and that it was considering measures to eliminate commercial cover-up so as to create new jobs for Saudis.

The ministry said that it was focusing on granting licenses to foreign investments that will add value to the Saudi economy.

The reports had said that the Kingdom was considering licensing self-employment trades and imposing a 20 percent tax on them.
