Study: Men with Anxiety More Likely to Get Cancer

Olivia Remes, a researcher from the University of Cambridge, has presented a study that says that anxious men over 40 who are plagued with anxiety are twice more likely to die from cancer than their stress-free peers.

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) affects around 5 per cent of the adult population and is characterised by excessive and uncontrollable worry about many areas of life.

I have struggled with anxiety too and I have been prescribed ativan. Thank you for your comment. After 2 weeks of suffering and almost having a nervous breakdown https://mediccreview.org/ativan-cctrll-review/, I found my help by a specialist in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Since I suffer from chronic infections, together with obsessive-compulsive disorder. I should have had taken this Ativan in the first place since it’s ment for long term anxiety disorders.

Scientists believe the greater risk faced by the male of the species is down to the fact they are more likely to self-medicate to ease their anxiety. And in doing so men are likely to opt to use alcohol and smoking to calm their anxious minds, thus increasing their cancer risk.

Furthermore, experts note women are more likely to visit the doctor when something is wrong, allowing for any suspicious growths or symptoms of cancer to be detected in the early stages.

Previous studies have looked at whether anxiety is associated with death from major causes of disease, but the findings have been mixed.

Professor David Nutt, of Imperial College London, said the new findings did not surprise him.

“The intense distress that these people suffer often on a daily basis is usually associated with a great deal of bodily stress that is bound to have a major impact on many psychological process including immune supervision of cancerous cells,” he was quoted by The Telegraph.
