Total Number Repatriated OFWs from Kuwait Reaches 1,500

A total of 113 undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait who availed the amnesty program offered by the Kuwaiti government have returned home, making the total number of repatriated OFWs rise to 1,500.

115 availed the amnesty but a batch of only 113 OFWs who escaped from their employers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on February 16.

The repatriated OFWs will receive financial assistance worth P5,000, and a livelihood assistance worth P15,000. OWs who returned to the Philippines with kids will be given an additional P5,000.

One of the repatriated OFWs said that she only lasted a month in Kuwait because her employer would feed her with trash.

The most recent batch of repatriates from Kuwait with 130 OFWs arrived on February 17.

The report also said that more OFWs from Kuwait who availed the amnesty program are expected to return to the Philippines in the coming days.

Hans Leo Cacdac, administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), encouraged all Filipinos in Kuwait to return home, especially those who are currently staying in their shelters.

According to previous reports, at least 10,000 OFWs from Kuwait are expected to avail the amnesty program arranged by the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait with the Kuwaiti government.
