RIYADH — The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced a reward of SR5,000 to anyone reporting on warehouses selling fireworks.
A source from the ministry said stores selling fireworks in bulk are being targeted. “The warehouse reported has to contain at least 4,000 fireworks. The ministry aims to raise awareness about the dangers of fireworks, especially when they are left in the hands of children,” said the source.
The source also said the ministry launched the campaign “Your Weapon Is in Your Child’s Hands” to make the consumer more aware of the dangers of fireworks.
“Fireworks are extremely dangerous and the Kingdom has banned them. If not used by professionals and under strict supervision, fireworks could be fatal. Without supervision on the fireworks being sold, children and adults might end up buying counterfeit products with poisonous chemical substances,” said the source.
The source added consumers are encouraged to contact the ministry to report on people selling fireworks by calling 1900.
“The municipalities are currently busy with illegal street sellers. The ministry is running its own inspection campaigns but it needs the consumers’ cooperation,” said the source.
