18 Patients Test Positive for MERS

Eighteen cases were tested positive for corona virus after checking 1,493 samples across the Kingdom last week.

The Ministry of Health said this in a weekly statement for the period from Feb. 22 to 28. Twelve of the confirmed cases were in Riyadh and one each in Al-Ahsa, Alkhobar, Jeddah, Najran, Buraidah and Al-Jouf, while nine of them were Saudis, three Yemenis, two Filipinos and one each Indian, Egyptian, Sudanese and Syrian. Of the affected, 13 were men and five women.

The statement added that six of the cases were observed in the private sector — six in the Ministry of Health, two in the National Guards, three in university hospitals and one in the military hospital. The affected people vary in age from 24 t0 91 years.

The rapid response team for the infectious diseases made 26 field visits last week.

The ministry said its command and control center continued around-the-clock efforts to ensure that all health establishments in the private and public sectors adhered to the measures to combat the infection and coordinated with the governmental sector and the world health organizations such as the WHO and specialized institutions to monitor any development related to the MERS.
