3 Young Artists Win Painting Contest

DUBAI: Three young Filipina artists beat 12 others contenders in the first on-the-spot painting contest organized by the Bayanihan Festival 2015 held last December 4 at the Al Mamzar Park.

First prize winner Mary Angelica Domantay walked away with Dh500. Lizelle Ann Dela Cruz placed second and went home with Dh300. Danish Danielle Palma got Dh200 for winning the third prize. All three were given trophies and other prizes from the sponsors.

Engr. Dante Delizo, organizer of on-the-spot painting competitions held during Philippine Independence Day annual celebrations and other special occasions, said they had 15 contestants aged nine to 16.

They were asked to paint one out of nine themes in a canvass using oil as medium.

“The painting contest themes this Bayanihan 2015 have been formulated especially for young children. The young artists should be able to interpret the themes Pamilyang Bayanihan, Pamilyang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa; Bayanihan Being Heroes to Each Other; BayanihanTungo sa Kalusugan; Bayanihan para sa Kalinangan; Bayanihan to Empower the Poor, Eradicate Hunger; Pagkakaisa Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran; Paskosa UAE in the Spirit of Bayanihan; Bayanihan: Treasure Filipino values; and Building Community, Building our Country through their artworks,” explained Delizo, who also heads the sponsorship committee of the Bayanihan Festival 2015.

The competition was extended to all Filipino schools in the UAE.

“The invitation was open to all Filipino schools in the UAE but we don’t categorize the contest per school but this is rather an individual competition,” he said.
