50 Caregivers Lose P20-M to Illegal Recruiter
LAOAG CITY — Fifty residents of Ilocos Norte lost P20 million to an illegal recruiter who promised to give them jobs as caregivers abroad.
The group went to the National Bureau of Investigation to report a certain Almerose Calipco, alias Honey Rose, a resident of Currimao, Ilocos Norte.
According to the victims, Calipco recruited them and promised to give them jobs as caregivers in different countries such as New Zealand, Australia, Canada and South Korea.
Calipco also asked each of them to pay P200,000 for the job placement. She was also the one who processed all their documents.
However, Calipco disappeared when almost all of them have paid their placement fees in full.
They also found out that Calipco is not registered with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) as a recruiter.
Authorities are now looking for Calipco, who will be charged with large scale illegal recruitment.
