Tropical Depression Not to Affect Taiwan But to Head for Japan

TAIPEI (CNA) – A tropical depression in the sea east of the Philippines could develop into a typhoon which is not expected to affect Taiwan but could head to Japan later next week, according to the Central Weather Bureau (中央氣象局) on Sunday.

CWB data showed that that the tropical depression was located some 2,200 kilometers southeast of Erluanpi, the southern tip of Taiwan, and was moving west at a speed of 10 km per hour.

The weather bureau forecast that the tropical weather system will turn north toward Japan before it gets near Taiwan on Oct. 19 or Oct. 20.
