Autopsy Done on Filipino Fire Victims in Qatar

DOHA: The Philippine embassy in Doha is in direct contact, and co-ordinating with Qatar authorities for documents needed to repatriate the bodies of the three Filipinos who perished in a fire that engulfed their flat in Al Muntazah, media reports said.

“I understand they have finished the autopsy which will serve as a reference for the police investigation report. I expect more developments next week,” Philippine ambassador Wilfredo Santos was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.

“I met the eldest daughter (Maria Angela Veronica), her uncle, and aunt on Tuesday, and assured them my support,” he reportedly said.

Three of the five members of the Pingul family Rafael Paule, Chona Rian, and Micaela, died of smoke inhalation at their residential unit on the fourth floor of their Hamad Medical Corporation accommodation early on December 7, the report said.

One of their children, Rafael Lorenzo, reportedly survived the tragedy and was discharged from the Hamad General hospital the next day.

The eldest daughter, Maria Angela Veronica, was in the Philippines when tragedy struck the family.

Relatives in Doha are taking care of the two surviving children, Gulf Times reported.
