Court Rejects Twice Pinay’s Christmas Wish

An overstaying Filipino tourist asked the High Court twice to allow her to post bail so that she could talk to her eight children in the Philippines before Christmas.
However, she failed in both occasions.
Jayme Marie M.E., reportedly a former food and beverage attendant in the Maldives, asked Court of First Instance Justice Joseph Yau on November 18 that she be allowed to post bail to talk to her children and see her family.
“My father is 64 years old and my mother is 65 years old. I want to be with them this Christmas,” Jayme said. “I also have eight children. I wish to talk to them before I am sentenced to jail,” she added.
The woman was arrested last month for overstaying and for having a bottle of powder that was suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride.
Jayme said her eight children were in the Philippines but her parents were Hong Kong residents. However, Justice Yau noted that her parents were not present in court.
Jayme said they did not know that they could come to court. She added that she had also lost her passport.
“My siblings—my brother and sister—are also visiting Hong Kong. I wish to be with them because it’s not often that we’re a complete family,” she said.
Justice Yau rejected her appeal because of the “seriousness” of the allegation against her and her lack of local ties.
On Nov. 23, Jayme tried again to ask for bail, this time with her parents in court, but the judge turned her down again because her passport was missing.
