Don’t Test HK Laws, Binay Warns Pinoys

Do not bring restricted items such as stun guns and similar devices in your hand-carried or checked-in baggage in going to Hong Kong.

The reminder was given on Wednesday by Vice President Jejomar Binay, who said stun guns and other devices such as tear gas, bullets, extendible batons, flick knives and knuckle dusters are considered “arms” under the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance of Hong Kong.

“Do not even try to bring any of these prohibited items to Hong Kong,” Binay advised Filipinos who are planning to take a trip to the former Crown Colony, now administered by China.

The Vice President issued this warning after the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong released a report showing that 60 Filipinos, especially seafarers, were convicted of possession of firearms without license in 2014.

According to the report, anyone caught in possession of the banned items faces a fine of HK$100,000 and/or a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment.
