Filipina Nanny Arrested in California for Hitting Special-Needs Child

MANILA — A Filipina nanny was arrested for hitting a child with special needs in Los Angeles, Calif., recently.
In a report posted on New York Daily News on Saturday, Thelma Manalastas was caught on camera as she repeatedly hit a 2-year-old child who suffers from Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome.
The mother, Dyanna Ko, said her child is “blind in one eye, non-verbal, eats through a feeding tube and requires care 24 hours a day.”
Manalastas was arrested by the police and was fired by her employer, Maxim Healthcare Services, after “they conducted their own investigation into the incident.”
The couple has filed a complaint against the company and Manalastas.
Manalastas is currently out on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
