First Pinoy Bakery Opens in Ottawa
CANADA – The first Filipino bakery opened recently in Ottawa much to the delight of kababayans in the area.
The nation’s capital finally has its first Filipino bakery.
Excited Filipinos went to Fiesta Manila Bakery’s grand opening to savor favorite Filipino baked goods.
“Well, I’m so happy and thrilled to have a Filipino bakery in Ottawa so you don’t have to go to Toronto and travel there and buy all these food and everything,” said Ottawa resident, Aida Lavoie.
The bakery’s owner, Alma Tolentino, said they decided to branch out to cater to the needs of Filipinos in the area.
“Kaya namin itinayo kasi maraming nag pi-pick up sa amin doon. Kaya nag branch out kami dito,” she said.
The bakery is a 17-year-old family business from Toronto. From selling just pandesal then, they now make brazo de mercedes, siopao, empanadas, sapin-sapin, pichi-pichi, suman, puto and leche flan.
Many Pinoys are excited with the bakery selling Pinoy treats now located in the city.
“Maganda kasi makakatikim na kami ng mga Pinoy na pagkain dito saka malapit pa sa bahay namin,” said TJ Sison.
With holidays around the corner, Filipinos now have a chance to add classic Filipino baked goods to their Christmas feast.
