Group of ‘Illegals’ Washes Cars, Sell Birds Without Being Noticed

MAKKAH: Certain areas of Makkah witness a regular scene in the morning of a number of men waiting for car-washing work and make some money.
After their morning duties, these men leave for other work as plumbers, electricians and rock breakers in mountains. They are Africans and nobody knows who actually their sponsors are and that they may be illegally staying in the Kingdom, local media reported on Friday.
Some of these people are also seen selling birds and seeds for pigeons and all of them live in a house in Housh Baker on the Al-Mansour Street, near Kubri Al-Nadawi.
Ali Al-Zahrani, a resident of the King Fahd Complex in the Al-Rusaifa neighborhood, was quoted as saying that some of these men stop him and plead for jobs. “They surround my car and shockingly some even enter my car and sit on the back seat. They say they want to work in the house or as guards, but most of them seem to be illegals.”
Another citizen, Redta Al-Qarehi, said they actually assemble at the Al-Kakia Bridge and nobody knows exactly what they do and how they make a living. Everyone knows they are violating the law and have no iqama. “Where are the security authorities,” he asks.
Nayef Al-Sharif, a citizen, said these people are found daily on the Al-Harmain Highway of Makkah-Madinah and near the pedestrian crossing on the Nazzal road, waiting for customers.
What is strange is that they are from one nationality. The same is true on the Al-Muabada Highway and next to the traffic lights.
