Honest Pinay in UAE Feted for Returning ATM Cash
A Filipina working in the United Arab Emirates was feted for her honesty, after she returned Dh4,300 (P51,797) dispensed from an automated teller machine.
Police said they will give the Filipina, an employee in a tourism company in Dubai, an award for her honesty, Gulf News reported late Sunday.
The Filipina, who the Gulf News report identified only as Jean, could not make it to a press conference by Dubai police for honest citizens.
“(W)e will be visiting her at her workplace in a tourism company in Dubai airport to award her in front of her colleagues,” said Col. Dr. Adel Al Suwaidi, director of Al Muraqqabat police station.
Investigation showed Jean went to Deira City Centre late last December to withdraw some money.
But when she attempted to use the ATM, she saw money in the cash slot. She took the money and handed it over to the police station.
“On January 15, an Arab man reported that he had lost this money as the bank credited him but he never received it,” Al Suwaidi said.
A separate report on Khaleej Times said the Filipina found the cash on New Year’s Eve of 2014.
“The money belonged to an Arab national who went to the ATM to withdraw money, but left without collecting it,” it said.
