Large PASEI Delegation Leaves for Central Europe to Strengthen OFW Market

A 22-member delegation of the Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. left yesterday for a 19-day marketing mission to Central Europe.

Led by PASEI President Elsa U. Villa, the marketing mission will bring the PASEI delegation to Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Poland.

“This is our third marketing mission to Europe this year,” Villa said in a statement at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“We are going back to Europe as a follow-through to our marketing mission to the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and Austria in June. Our objective is to strengthen and enhance the new markets in Central and Western Europe for our OFWs,” she added.

Villa said these new emerging labor markets for Filipinos have a lot to be explored and their labor and immigration laws a lot to be studied, adding that while these countries have consistently expressed desire to hire more Filipinos, Philippine licensed agency owners cannot yet fast track the hiring and deployment of OFWs because of unfamiliarity with the markets.

“We need government support to open up the European labor markets for Filipinos,” Villa said.

This government support could come in the forms of establishing Philippine Overseas Labor Offices in some of the countries; relaxing or doing away redundant rules not compatible with the high labor standards of the European Union; and initiating discussions that could lead to the establishment of bilateral labor agreements.

The first stop of the PASEI marketing mission will be Croatia, followed by Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Poland. In the Czech Republic and Poland, the mission will hold another round of talks with the regional officials of the Labor ministries of both countries and with Polish and Czech employers.
