KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and the Philippines have yet to decide the cost of deporting illegal immigrants from Sabah, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
He said both countries were still in discussions to decide who (which country) would bear the cost of deporting the illegal immigrants.
“What is important is that we are ready to depot the Filipino illegal immigrants who were detained in Sabah,” he said when winding up debate for the 2017 Supply Bill at his ministry level in Dewan Rakyat, here on Monday.
He was answering a question from Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim (BN-Kuala Selangor) as to who would bear the cost of deporting illegal immigrants.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said Philippines president Rodrigo Roa Duterte who visited Malaysia on Nov 9, had agreed to Malaysia’s decision to send home 7,000 Filipino illegal immigrants in stages. — Bernama
