Man Loses Imprisonment Appeal in Dubai Boy Abuse Case
DUBAI: An intoxicated man, who kissed a three-year-old boy and gave him a rose before insulting a Filipina nanny for trying to intervene, has lost an appeal against a three-month imprisonment, according to a media report.
The unemployed Asian, MJ, 49, kissed the boy identified as TM on Jumeirah beach at around 6.20pm on April 1, Gulf Today quoted the Ports Police Station records as saying.
He reportedly claimed during police questioning that it was “spontaneous.” In court, he argued he was under the influence of alcohol and was not aware of his actions.
He reportedly presented a defence memo. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to three months in prison plus deportation. He lost a clemency plea at the Appeals Court.
The Filipina nanny, RS, 40, was with TM when MJ arrived and greeted him. “How are you?” she quoted MJ as saying, adding that she realised he was smelling of alcohol. The boy called him to come.
“I was shocked to see him kissing the boy for around three seconds. I tried to ask him the reason he did it but he insulted me.” She quoted him telling her she was a mere nanny and that it was none of her business to stop him.
The Filipina maid reportedly explained that MJ found the boy playing on the beach. “He kneeled next to him, kissed him and gave him a rose.” They contacted the police.
An Emirati sergeant explained that on being questioned, MJ confessed to have committed the offence but contended he had no bad intention.
“He said it was a spontaneous kiss,” Gulf Today quoted him as saying.
