Number of Fake Engineers Falls
JEDDAH: The number of people with fake engineering qualifications is on the decline because of tough new regulations, which include jail, fines, deportation and a ban from re-entering the country.
This is according to Abdulnasser bin Saif Al-Abdullatif, spokesman of the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE), who said that work to uncover fraudsters are taking place with an international company.
Earlier this year, the SCE announced that it had detected more than 30,000 foreigners with fake degrees and urged public and private firms to only employ engineers registered with the organization.
Al-Abdullatif said the SCE also refers all people with fake certificates to the Ministry of Interior, which then launches criminal proceedings against them, according to a report in a local publication on Tuesday.
Al-Abdullatif said there are 235,000 engineers registered with the SCE, with Saudis only making up 35,000.
