OFWs Urged to Invest in Agribusiness

MANILA – A lawmaker urged returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to invest in agribusiness to ensure the protection and sustainability of their hard-earned money.

Senator Cynthia Villar’s Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (SIPAG) and GoNegosyo organized the 4th OFW and Family Summit where OFWs and their families can gain new entrepreneurial skills, particularly in agribusiness.

“This is a very inspiring and productive event because Filipino migrant workers and their families will be provided with knowledge and information on entrepreneurship to start their own businesses,” said Villar.

With the theme, “Negosyo sa Agrikultura Para sa Ikauunlad ng Bansa at Pamilya,” the summit will teach OFWs on “how to intelligently invest their hard-earned money”.

Villar, who chairs the Senate Agriculture and Food committee, said they decided to delve on agribusiness because of its potential to spur economic growth and employment.

It will also help in poverty alleviation, she said.

She also sees agribusiness boosting food security by addressing escalating food prices.

Admission to the summit, which will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on December 4, is free but participants need to register online at ofwsummit2014.villarsipag.org.
