Philippine Embassy Close on October 2

Abu Dhabi: The Philippine Embassy will remain closed on October 2, Sunday, to mark the advent of the Islamic New Year.

There will be no consular services (Passports, Authentication, Notarials, Civil Registration and Visa Services) on the ocassion of Al-Hijra (AH) or Islamic New Year, the Philippine Embassy said in a statement.

The Hijri New Year is on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the lunar Islamic calendar, which differs from the Gregorian calendar. The first day of 1438 AH will fall on October 2, 2016.

The first Islamic year started in 622 AD with the emigration of Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Madina, known as the Hijra.
