Remains of PH Ambassador Killed in Pakistan to Arrive on Wed

MANILA, Philippines – The remains of the late Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan Domingo Lucenario Jr. will be brought back to Manila on Wednesday (May 13).

Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said Lucenario’s remains will be transported to Manila on board a Pakistani C-130 plane. The plane will arrive at Villamor Airbase at 7 a.m., Wednesday.

On Thursday, Lucenario’s remains will be brought to Heritage Park in Taguig.

On Friday, the DFA will hold a memorial service for the slain diplomat from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A career diplomat, Lucenario was appointed by President Aquino as ambassador to Pakistan in 2012 with jurisdiction over Afghanistan, Kyrgzstan and Tajikistan.

Jose said the Pakistani authorities are still investigating the cause of the helicopter crash, which killed Lucenario, Norwegian Ambassador Leif Larsen and the wives of ambassadors of Malaysia and Indonesia, last Friday.

The Pakistan government said the aircraft suffered engine failure. It rejected the Pakistani Taliban’s claim that militants shot the helicopter down. — Report from Henry Atuelan, DZMM
