Residents Evacuated as Fire Hits Dubai Apartment Building
Dubai: Residents of a building in Dubai’s Al Khail Gate community, where a suspected gas cylinder blast took place on Wednesday morning, were evacuated after a fresh fire hit it Monday evening.
No one was injured and the fire was put out immediately, Gulf News quoted the Dubai Civil Defense as saying.
At least three ambulances and two fire trucks were among the emergency vehicles that reached the spot, the residents of the building, which also houses Filipinos, reportedly said.
Tenants, including women and children, panicked and rushed out of their units after a fire broke out on the seventh floor of the Building 1-1 in the phase 2 of the community around 5:30pm.
“We saw smoke on the fourth floor when we took the stairs to come down,” a Filipina living on the fifth floor reportedly said.
“We heard the fire alarm and saw people rushing out. I picked the kids and also came out immediately,” said an Indian woman, adding that she also asked her neighbors’ kids to rush out as their parents were not at home.
Another resident said security guards evacuated the rest of the occupants. The residents added that the civil defense team reached soon and put out the fire.
It was immediately not known what caused the fire and if anyone was injured, reported Gulf News.
Dubai police and building management team members started allowing residents on the lower floors to go back to their flats by 6:15pm, said the news portal.
An Indian grandmother had succumbed to injuries and her daughter is still fighting for life after the explosion in building number 39 of phase 1 of the community in Al Quoz on Wednesday. It is suspected that a gas leakage caused the blast that wrecked the walls of their apartment.
Some residents said the fresh fire which came close on the heels of last week’s blast made them more worried. However, they were relieved soon since the fire was not huge and the civil defense team completed their mission soon, Gulf News reported.
