Still No Justice for Teen Pinay Hit-and-run Victim in Spain

SPAIN – The family of a Filipina who died in a hit-and-run accident last year is still calling for justice.

Siony Manongsong Dalisay offered a mass at the Iglesia de San Agustin in Barcelona for her teen daughter, Angelica.

“Sabi nga nila, walang kasing sakit na mawalan ng isang anak,” she said.

Dalisay is frustrated with the slow progress of the case. A year after the accident, no hearing has been set yet for the case.

“Hintay ka nang hintay, nakakasama ng loob. Gusto kong magalit pero kanino? Yun umiiyak na lang ako dahil habang nagsisindi ako ng kandila gabi-gabi gusto kong sabihin na ayan na, may nangyari na sa kaso, may nanagot na sa gumawa sa iyo, pero wala, wala akong masabi dahil wala naman talaga,” Dalisay said.

The 17-year old girl was walking along the pedestrian lane along with her son and boyfriend when she was struck by a vehicle in the municipality of Gava in Barcelona and died due to injuries she sustained. Her son and boyfriend were unharmed in the accident.

The suspect surrendered. The accident happened as the suspect was said to be on the phone and got distracted. It was also found out that the suspect drove with an expired driver’s license and did not own the vehicle that struck the girl.

The suspect is facing homicide charges and failure to lend help to injured persons. Currently on bail, the suspect is not allowed to leave the country and is ordered to report to court every Monday.
