Still No Updates on Pinay on Death Row in Indonesia

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs is still waiting for an update regarding the case of a Filipina on death row in Indonesia.

The Pinay’s execution was deferred after the case has been placed under judicial review, the DFA said.

The DFA also clarified that the Filipina was not among the convicted drug smugglers who were transferred to a prison island for execution.

“All except the Filipina was moved to the island,” DFA Assistant Secretary Charles Jose said.

The Pinay was nabbed carrying 2.6 kilograms (5.73 pounds) of heroin at Yogyakarta airport in April 2010. She claimed that she was not aware that the suitcases entrusted to her by a friend contained illegal drugs.
