MANILA – A new vehicular traffic scheme is been implemented Monday around Circulo del Mundo to facilitate better traffic flow for passengers going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
The innermost lane of the rotunda has been made into a priority lane for airport passengers which motorists along Andrews Avenue may take coming from Sales Road.
Motorists coming from Baclaran, on the other hand, will not be allowed to turn left along the rotunda going to New Port Mall.
They would have to proceed further to Andrews Avenue and take the U-turn slot in front of Remington Hotel on their way towards the mall.
Road barricades and appropriate signage have been installed in the area to guide motorists.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado says that, during the trial period last week, travel time going to Terminal 3 significantly improved.
“Traffic woes need to be further addressed especially during the rush of passengers to the airport this holiday season. Thanks to the priority lane, the one-hour travel time from Sales Road to Terminal 3 during heavy traffic has been cut roughly by half,” Honrado says.
The General Manager advises motorists to stay on the left-most lane of Andrews Avenue coming from Sales Road to be able use the priority lane.
Meanwhile, expressway contractor DMCI gave its assurance to the MIAA that most of the groundwork for the project has already been completed – save for some areas along Andrews Avenue and NAIA Road.
As such, clearing operations have been completed to make way for improved vehicular traffic flow.
The contractor added that they expect the expressway to be completed early next year.
