Two Transgender Pinoys Nabbed in Wan Chai

TWO transgender Filipinos were arrested in Wan Chai after they allegedly offered sexual services in exchange for money.
Eastern Courts Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai on April 26 set the trial of suspect Junisan Catarungan, who appeared in court wearing an olive green dress, on May 11 after she was charged with soliciting for immoral purposes and breach of condition of stay.
The prosecution said they will be presenting three witnesses to prove their case against Catarungan, who demurely wiped away her tears.
Her co-accused, Mark Anthony Reyes, will be tried on May 12, also on the same charges.
Reyes was wearing a black dress when she appeared in court.
Jennifer Reyes, Reyes’ sister, flew in from the Philippines and said that both her brother and Catarungan underwent sex reassignment surgery in 2014.
“Wala pa kaming tulog. Nalaman lang namin iyong nangyari sa kanila noong Thursday (April 21) ng 4 a.m. Yung damit niya nun, iyon pa din ang damit niya ngayon sa court,” Jennifer said.
“Ibibigay nga sana namin itong damit, kaya lang hindi daw pwedeng kausapin,” she added.
Jennifer also said that, because of their surgery, her brother and Catarungan needed extra care in “cleaning their new sex organ.” They also needed to regularly take their hormonal pills.
Kin Ngai, a representative from Midnight Blue, a community-based NGO in Hong Kong that has been serving male and transgender sex workers, accompanied Jennifer and three of the defendants’ friends during the court proceedings.
“Sa (April) 29 na din kami lahat uuwi. Sana nga kasabay na namin sila, kasi naka- schedule na iyon,” Jennifer said.
The friends of the two Filipinos said they all came to Hong Kong on April 6 and were here to tour the city.
