MANILA — Ambassador Domingo Lucenario was among the 7 people killed in a helicopter crash in Pakistan Friday.

A career diplomat, Lucenario was appointed by President Aquino as ambassador to Pakistan in 2012 with jurisdiction over Afghanistan, Kyrgzstan and Tajikistan, according to his profile on the website of the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan

He also served as the Philippine ambassador to Kenya, Burundi, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda, Somalia and Tanzania.

Lucenario also served the Philippine government in various diplomatic capacities. He was vice consul and legal officer at the Philippine Consulate General in Hamburg, Germany from 1986 to 1990, and was officer-in-charge/third secretary and vice consul at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin, Germany from 1990 to 1992.

He was also assigned as the first secretary and consul of the Philippine Embassy in Canberra, Australia from 1996 to 2000, and as consul at the Philippine Consulat General in Hong Hong SAR from 2000 to 2004.

Ambassador Lucenario was the only Filipino career diplomat who held three major Presidential Awards–the Order of Sikatuna Award with the rank of Datu (2009), the Order of Lakandula Award with the rank of Grand Officer (2008), and the Gawad Mabini Award with the rank of Grand Officer (2008).

He graduated from San Beda College with a degree of Bachelor of Law in 1984, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, magna cum laude, from Manuel L. Quezon University.

Lumenario also had a Master of Laws degree from the University of Manila, and a Diploma in international Relations from the Deutche Stiftung fur Internationale Entwicklung (DSE) in Berlin, Germany.

Ambassador Lucenario is survived by his wife, lawyer Nida Arada Lucenario, and their three children.
