A 51-year-old Filipino man died after being struck by a car in Causeway Bay on Friday night. At 8:34pm, a 74-year-old man driving an electric Tesla car hit the man at the exit to the Times Square mall’s carpark in Causeway Bay, Wen Wei Po reported.

The deceased was named as Larry Sevilla, a resident and founder of 1Ganap Guardians and vice-chairman of the Duterte Alliance Hong Kong, sunwebhk.com reported.

Sevilla was carrying two bags of clothes and was headed to a laundry when the accident happened. He was struck as he walked past the exit of the carpark, the Apple Daily reported.

It was thought the driver of the car confused the brake pedal and the accelerator and ran over Sevilla before crashing into a pillar supporting the Canal Road flyover on the opposite side of the road.

Sevilla suffered head injuries and was knocked unconscious. Paramedics sent him to Queen Mary Hospital where he was pronounced dead 16 hours later. The driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

Many Filipinos expressed their condolences on social media and many of his friends remembered him as a soft spoken, kind and devoted father.

Members of the Filipino community have called for financial help for Sevilla’s family – his wife Michelle and two young daughters aged five and eight-months-old.

Among those calling for help for the family was Marvin Cometa, the chair of DAHK, who said he would hold a fundraising event for Sevilla on March 25.
