Garage Sale for Marawi Refugees Aug. 12-13 in Skokie, Illinois

SKOKIE, Illinois — Proceeds from a garage sale on Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13, 9-5 p.m., at 5323 Wright Terrace corner of Gross Point Rd. here will go to the feeding program of Gawad Kalinga (GK), which is currently helping feed Marawi City residents displaced by the ongoing war of the Philippine military against Isis terrorists and Maute rebels in Marawi City in the Philippines.

Nearly a quarter million war refugees are lodged in temporary shelters in neighboring Mindanao cities whose city officials sounded the distress call for assistance to feed and to meet the basic needs of displaced refugees.
Gawad Kalinga volunteers have responded, but they have called for immediate assistance for them to effectively help the refugees. Sending financial assistance is the fastest and most efficient way to show support.

Chicago area GK officials are calling for donors and volunteers for the August 12-13 fundraising event. Lightly used household items, small appliances and furniture, bric-a-bracs, DVDs, CDs, books, tools are welcome. Volunteers emphasize that items should be in working condition and clothing, footwear must be clean.
Gawad Kalinga has built no fewer than 300,000 houses for the marginalized Filipinos and provides relief goods during natural disasters and conflicts. It has also successfully launched environment-friendly livelihood projects for the poor.
